SHERMAN HOUSE RESTORATION CAMPAIGN

A Welcome Place for Local Seniors

The Glens Falls Senior Center has been serving the needs of the local senior community since 1959 and has been housed in the magnificent Augustus Sherman House since 1962. As the current owner of this National Historic Landmarked home built in 1844, the Center is now in need of major renovations and upgrades to insure a usable facility for decades to come. To that effect, we are announcing our first major Capital Fundraising effort.

Our Goal: $500,000

This great mansion has survived almost fully in tact both internally and externally with architecture and detailing that is considered among the finest in the City of Glens Falls today. Much of it is still in reasonably good condition thanks to good maintenance over the years. The top priority now is the replacement of the two furnaces as they are both almost 100 years old and are beyond repair. Secondarily, much of the roof over hang corbels and exterior woodwork on the building needs to be repaired or replaced. Roofs and other parts of the structure also have to be upgraded or replaced, some immediately and we won’t know the extent of all the work until we actually begin to tear things apart.
